Turning AI off

AI is optional. You can read, highlight, take notes and look up words without it.

Switch it off

1. Go to Settings, then AI features.
2. Switch off AI features.

That one setting covers pre-reading guides, explanations of passages and pictures, simplified text and other AI features across the app.

What happens while it is off

• AI features show a short note that AI is off, with a link back to the setting.
• Nothing is sent to an AI model: no passage, chapter or picture from your books, and no guide you made earlier.
• Our small weekly quality check skips your guides and simplified chapters too. See what we send to Claude.
• The other AI settings, such as tone and output language, are greyed out until you switch AI back on.
• Highlights, notes, bookmarks, search, export and the free dictionary all keep working.

We check this setting on our servers for every AI feature you use, not only in the app, so a feature cannot slip through.

Switch it back on

Return to Settings, then AI features, and switch it on again. Your earlier guides and explanations are still there if they have not yet expired.
